Seed phrases explained

A seed phrase is a human-readable backup used by many wallets to recreate private keys.

How it works

The phrase represents highly sensitive recovery information. Anyone who obtains it may be able to reconstruct the wallet and control its assets, even without the original device.

What to check

Check whether the wallet follows a standard recovery scheme and how restoration works before relying on it. Keep recovery information offline and separate from everyday login credentials.

  • Never share the phrase
  • Test recovery safely before depending on it
  • Treat exposure as a full-wallet compromise

Limits and risks

A seed phrase is not the same as a password that can be changed after compromise. Once exposed, the safer response is usually to move assets to a newly generated wallet.
